Study summaries, with the design and population behind each number

Dario lists more than 100 publications and scientific presentations, including 32 peer-reviewed journal articles. Below are the results most relevant to cardiometabolic programs, each with its population, comparison and limits.

How to read these results

Randomized trial

Participants are assigned to the program or a comparison by chance. The strongest design for showing cause and effect.

Matched comparison

Program users are compared with similar non-users drawn from real-world data. Stronger than a single group, but unmeasured differences can remain.

Single group

Change in participants over time, with no comparison group. Shows what happened, not how much the program caused.

Results from different studies come from different populations and designs and should not be compared with each other.

Type 2 diabetesMatched comparison

Lab-measured HbA1c improved more in Dario users than in matched non-users

Among adults with medication-treated type 2 diabetes and HbA1c of 7% or higher, 47.0% of Dario users and 36.8% of matched non-users had HbA1c at least 1 point lower at 6 months. On average, users' HbA1c fell 0.23 points more than non-users'. 568 users, 1,699 non-users, 2017 to 2021. No statistically significant difference in severe low blood sugar was detected, though the estimate was imprecise.

Limits: observational; included only people with follow-up lab results.

Fewer hospital stays and lower estimated medical costs over 12 months

Compared with matched non-users, adults with type 2 diabetes using Dario had a 23.5% lower inpatient hospitalization rate and 9.3% fewer combined hospital and emergency-room events. Emergency-room visit rates alone were similar. Among people who had any hospital or emergency-room charges, estimated annual medical costs were $5,077 lower (2022 dollars), while pharmacy costs were $1,306 higher. 2,445 users, 7,334 non-users.

Limits: observational; the cost figure comes from a sensitivity analysis applying a cost-to-charge ratio to billed charges, not paid claims or program ROI.

Diabetes with high blood pressureSingle group
Conference abstract, 2022

More than a third moved to a lower blood-pressure stage within 6 months

Among people with diabetes and stage 1 or higher hypertension using Dario, 38.7% moved to a lower blood-pressure stage within 6 months.

Limits: no comparison group; conference abstract (American Diabetes Association, 2022).

Conference abstract, 2026

Weight loss at 12 months, with and without GLP-1 medication

Employer members with obesity who used Dario lost 14.3% of body weight on average at 12 months if they were also taking a GLP-1 medication, and 6.4% if they were not.

Limits: no control group; the two groups differ in more than medication, so this does not measure the effect of Dario or of the medication.

Conference abstract, 2025

Preliminary analysis of medical costs before and after enrollment

In 613 employer members, medical paid costs were $119 per member per month lower after enrollment than before.

Limits: preliminary; no comparison group, so other changes over time are not separated from the program's effect.

What the wider evidence base contains

Most of Dario's listed research is conference abstracts and posters, and most studies follow a single group over time. The randomized trials are in behavioral health. The strongest cardiometabolic evidence is the matched claims research summarized above, which evaluated Dario's diabetes solution between 2017 and 2021 rather than today's multi-condition employer program.
